Crevasse Rescue Class: Glacier Parking Lot, Lake Placid

As preparation for climbing Mount Rainier and Mount Hood, we met up with RMI Guide Dave Conlan in Lake Placid where he currenlty lives to review the basics of glacier travel and rescue scenarios. Since it was a warm and balmy previous week, there wasn't much snow left anywhere. The one place thre was still an amount of snow left where we could do our scenarios was the parking lot just below the famous Olympic ski jumps. We reverently call this area... the Parking Lot Glacier!

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."    — Robert A. Heinlein
